However, nearby, you will find much better beaches, such as Praia do Forno. Despite this, due to its central location in Arraial do Cabo, it remains quite popular, especially among those who enjoy walking along the shore and visiting local bars and restaurants.

From the pier at Praia dos Anjos, boats depart for tours and water taxis. The beach has good infrastructure with bars, beach bars, and restaurants, making it a good option to visit after tours, to admire the sunset, and enjoy local cuisine or a drink. Additionally, this beach is the most convenient option for accommodation in Arraial do Cabo.

7 – Brava Beach

Brava Beach (Praia Brava) is a more secluded beach, ideal for those wanting to escape the busier beaches of Arraial do Cabo. With rougher seas, many waves, and a small strip of sand that becomes completely submerged during high tide, Praia Brava offers a different experience. Located near Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia, access to the beach is via a somewhat hidden trail.

8 – Pontal Beach

Pontal Beach (Praia do Pontal) is located at the entrance to Arraial do Cabo. Although not one of the most popular beaches in the region, many people seeking a quieter and less crowded place choose this beach. The area features a large stretch of sand and maintains the characteristics of the region’s other beaches, with fine white sands, blue sea, and surrounded by vegetation. The beach lacks good infrastructure, but you can find some trailers or stands to buy drinks or snacks.

9 – Graçainha Beach

This is a small beach, surrounded by nature, seldom crowded, and without infrastructure, which preserves its natural beauty and authenticity. Access to Graçainha Beach (Praia da Graçainha) is via a 20-minute trail that starts on the right side of Prainha. With calm and crystal-clear waters, it is a perfect place to relax, swim, and snorkel.

Tips for Enjoying the Beaches of Arraial do Cabo

• Check the Tide Chart: Some beaches are less affected by tidal changes, but others can change completely and some even disappear during high tide. We suggest checking the tide chart on the Brazilian Navy’s website to identify the times of high and low tides.
• Always Ask the Price: Before consuming any product or acquiring a service on the beaches of Arraial do Cabo, ask the price. Also, pay attention to the minimum consumption value to use the chairs at restaurants and beach bars.
• Take Your Trash: Some of the more rustic beaches in Arraial do Cabo do not have trash bins or cleaning services. To keep the beach clean, take all your trash and dispose of it in an appropriate place.
• Bring Water and Snacks: Some beaches are accessible by trails or by water taxis. If you choose the trails, bring water and something to eat.
• Use Sunscreen: The sun in Brazil is quite strong, especially during the summer. Do not forget to apply sunscreen with an adequate SPF.
• Wear Sunglasses and a Hat or Cap: These items help protect your eyes and face from the intense sun.
• Water Taxi: One of the most common ways to get to the beaches of Arraial do Cabo is by water taxi. These boats leave from Praia dos Anjos and prices vary depending on the destination.
• Book Your Boat Tour in Advance: To visit Praia do Farol, the only way is by boat tour. We recommend booking at least three days in advance, especially in the high season.
• Bring a Camera or Mobile Phone: The landscapes in Arraial do Cabo are beautiful, so bring a camera or a mobile phone to capture your photos. Preferably, use water-resistant cameras, like a GoPro, as the waters in the region are extremely clear and perfect for photos.

The tide is a natural phenomenon that directly influences the beaches, affecting the volume, color, and clarity of the waters. Thus, some beaches are less influenced by tidal variation, but others change completely, and some even cease to exist during high tide.

If you plan to enjoy the beaches of Arraial do Cabo or other beaches in Rio de Janeiro, we suggest consulting the Tide Table on the Brazilian Navy’s website. Where it is possible to identify the times of high and low tides.

Low tide is always the best option to enjoy the beaches, as the sea is calmer, the waters are clearer, and there is a larger strip of sand. Some beaches like Praia Grande, Praia dos Anjos, Prainha, and Praia do Forno are not very influenced by the tide. However, at Praia Brava, the entire strip of sand is covered during high tide, and at Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia, access to the Gruta do Amor becomes more difficult or even impossible.

Most of the accommodations in Arraial do Cabo are very basic inns that offer only essential services. However, if you choose the right area and explore the options, you can find good accommodations with great service and a welcoming atmosphere.

In the city, there are also good options for vacation homes, which in many cases are more modern and well-maintained than the inns, offering a degree of luxury and modernity.

The following are the best regions to stay in Arraial do Cabo. Although the city is large, we do not recommend staying in other neighborhoods because, besides being farther from the beaches and lacking good infrastructure, they may not be as safe for tourists.

1 – Anjos Beach: Central area and most practical

The Anjos Beach (Praia dos Anjos) region is the most practical area to stay in Arraial do Cabo. It’s ideal for those seeking easy access to the main attractions and services in the city. Boat tours and water taxis to the best beaches in Arraial do Cabo depart from Anjos Beach. The walk to Forno Brach also starts at Anjos Beach.

This area has supermarkets, bars, good restaurants, tour agencies, shops, pharmacies, and ATMs. Anjos Beach also offers a good number of hotels and rental apartments. Arraial do Cabo doesn’t have a very lively nightlife, but this is the region where most bars and restaurants are concentrated in the evening.

Central location with all necessary amenities. Easy access to Arraial do Cabo’s beaches and tours.

Anjos Beach itself isn’t great for swimming.

To be closer to the port where the boats depart and the start of the trail to Forno Beach, stay on the left side of the beach.

• Costa Dourada Pousada: A simple in that offers basic hotel services, as well as well-lit, air-conditioned rooms. The inn has a good breakfast and is just a few steps from where the boats for tours depart.
• Pousada Arraial Inn: A rustic inn with a cozy atmosphere. It offers more than just basic services, with a pool, sauna, air conditioning, and good breakfast.
• Apartment with pool: A two-bedroom apartment with a sea view, located a few steps from the marina. The apartment has a pool, playground, fully equipped kitchen, and balcony.

2 – Praia Grande: Gorgeous Beach and Spectacular Sunsets

Praia Grande, often called Praia Grande, is a stunning beach known for its breathtaking sunsets. It’s conveniently located near Anjos Beach and the entrance to the Pontal do Atalaia condominium, which leads to the Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia.

This beach is great for swimming, although it has the coldest water in Arraial do Cabo. The area also boasts a good range of amenities, including restaurants, beach bars, supermarkets, and pharmacies. However, despite having everything you might need, Anjos Beach offers a much wider variety of hotels and restaurants than Praia Grande.

The beach water is quite cold. The selection of restaurants and hotels is not very broad or varied.

Consider staying on the left side of Praia Grande, near the statue of Flávia Alessandra. This is the busiest part of the beach, where most of the restaurants are located.

• Pousada Caminho do Sol: A simple, rustic inn just steps from the beach. This lodge offers a pool, restaurant, air-conditioned rooms, basic hotel services, and a hearty breakfast.

3 – Prainha: A Very Popular Area

Prainha is an extremely popular beach, which can sometimes feel a bit chaotic, located right at the entrance to Arraial do Cabo. The beach is picturesque and tends to be crowded, especially during peak season and on weekends.

This area boasts a good variety of restaurants, although hotel options are limited, with seasonal apartments being the most common type of accommodation in Prainha.

This is my least favorite area to stay in Arraial do Cabo, as it is not only very crowded but also further away from the marina and access to Arraial’s best beaches.

• Mediterrane Hotel by Castelo Itaipava: The best hotel in the Prainha area. Located two blocks from the sea, it offers full services including a rooftop pool, bar, restaurant, sauna, gym, and breakfast.

4 – Pontal do Atalaia: A Quiet Area with Incredible Views

Pontal do Atalaia is a serene region, offering a good selection of seasonal homes with beautiful views and personalized services. The best vacation homes in Arraial do Cabo are found here. However, it’s important to be discerning as, alongside some top-quality homes, there are also some of lesser quality.

This area is not for those looking to economize; it caters to discerning travelers seeking a more exclusive, comfortable spot with a touch of luxury, a step above the standard accommodations in Arraial do Cabo.

Offers spacious, modern vacation homes with ocean views.

The area is further from the city center, and ideally, you should have a car or keep a driver’s contact handy for more comfort.

Being further from the center, this location is not the best for those wanting to explore the entire city. It’s more suited for visitors who plan fewer outings and prefer to return to relax with a stunning view.

Best Hotels to Stay in Pontal do Atalaia
